What does the LoyalFree app do?

LoyalFree is a multi award winning place app, designed to boost footfall and sales in town and city centres. App users can save money when they shop local and discover exclusive deals, exciting local events and interactive trails all on their smartphone!

The partnership

Choose Ulverston (Ulverston Business Improvement District (BID) were one of the early adopters of LoyalFree, joining soon after the launch of the in-app local guide feature which provides a mass of information on the area including key attractions, map, parking information and more – perfect for visitors!

The town businesses are enjoying a multitude of benefits that come from digitising the shopping experience and as well as targeting tourists, have seen a massive 23% of the towns population using the app! LoyalFree works really well with independent shops and Ulverston has such a variety of amazing places, there is so much going on and you can tell there’s a lot of passion in the town – the response from traders has been incredible.

Ulverston BID were interested in bringing a loyalty scheme to the town to incentivise shopping in the town centre. The BID decided to stray from the traditional loyalty card and opt for an app format so as they could showcase not just the traditional shops but the non-retail businesses too! The app is being utilised by many of the towns shops and pubs including Beerwolf and the Hot Mango Cafe, but offers such as a “Free Valuation” from Ralph Spours Estate Agent can also be claimed. The app has been hailed as a “dynamic” step forward for shopping experience in the town.

‘‘It works on so many different levels. We can use it as a loyalty scheme but it also has the benefit of offering one-off discounts.” Michelle Scrogham, owner of Pure and retail representative from the BID.

“After considering many solutions for a place app it was obvious LoyalFree has the best expertise, initiative and knowledge to work with our town.

The energy and commitment of the team to develop themselves and the towns they work in is impressive, with regular updates of their technology in line with the changing demands of the public.” Justin Wales – BID Manager, Choose Ulverston

By linking the information directly from the app to the BID website LoyalFree has also been able to create an up to date directory of offers for the public to access. Furthermore, through co-branding within the app, Choose Ulverston are able to keep the offering in line with their own well-known BID brand, but the public still has flexibility to use the app across the country by changing their location. Ulverston BID and the town’s businesses now have access to data on how well their offers are working and which events and trails the public are most interested in. By combining live data on app downloads and usage alongside other data sources, the BID can make conclusions which help with future planning in the town.

The results speak for themselves….

There are currently over 2,000 LoyalFree app users in Ulverston (thats over 23% of the town’s population) and they are extremely busy as they have built up a massive 30,000 interactions on the app – and growing!

LoyalFree promotes over 100 Loughborough Businesses on the app, including market traders and non-retail businesses.

The best trails in Ulverston

It’s not just the deals that Ulverston users are interested in – their town trails have received 100’s of interactions! The tours & trails feature works by grouping together businesses to make life easier. For example, a trail could see a group of businesses combined into one easy-to-access place which customers can use to complete their Mother’s Day shopping or discover a Gluten Free trail that promises to help those with dietary requirements dine out safely.

Particular trails which have attracted attention in the town include Dog Friendly Ulverston and the Ulverston in Bloom Judges Route Trail. Ulverston (and LoyalFree) love dogs and so the dog friendly trail was created to ensure app users know of the many shops, cafes and other locations who will welcome your pooch! The Ulverston in Bloom judges route trail features the beautiful spaces and greenery that ensured the town won gold in the Cumbria in Bloom awards 2019. Users can follow the digital map to all 11 locations featured.
