Traders and Shoppers Love Using New App in Lincoln

Businesses, shoppers and visitors have given a BIG “thumbs-up” to a new innovative Loyalty Card scheme.

Since Lincoln BIG’s impromptu “flashmob” launch of the LoyalFree App in the city’s High Street just over two weeks ago, more than 50 businesses have signed-up to the scheme and had their money-saving offers and events for customers posted to the App.  And shoppers of all ages are enjoying the benefits of simply flicking on their smartphones and tapping into some great savings and other deals being offered by Lincoln BIG’s levy payers.

Businesses are already reporting how the App is attracting extra customers and shoppers are loving the novelty of using their smartphones to claim the benefits – and they are talking about LoyalFree too.

Lincoln BIG decided to invest in the App in line with its determination to support the future survival of the High Street – and our “flashmob” event certainly got people talking as they walked to work!

Chief Executive Sarah Loftus was joined by representatives from the City of Lincoln Council and businesses to promote the App and highlight how Lincoln’s free Wi-Fi can help shoppers and tourists to make the most of it. And entrepreneurs Sophie Hainsworth and Jason Nesbitt, who are behind the scheme, were also on hand to spread the word about LoyalFree. (The App can be downloaded from the App Store by Apple iPhone users or from Google Play for people with Android phones).

Sarah Loftus said: “Sophie and Jason devised the App with the aim of boosting trade for businesses across the UK.  Lincoln BIG is its 12th UK partnership.

“We are extremely proud of Lincoln’s retail and commercial offer. The city has a fabulous mix of independent and national name shopping, which is growing by the day.

“We wanted to acknowledge the sheer competition faced by retail and other business and we are thrilled that the LoyalFree App has taken off.  We are sure many more of our levy payers will be signing-up to it in the days to come.”

It is believed to be the first time that a free Loyalty App and Wi-Fi have been offered as a joint benefit for shoppers and visitors to the city.

Levy payers who have signed-up for the App include Carluccio’s, Cheeky Monkeys and The Old Palace Lodge.

Carluccio’s General Manager Kirsty Jones said the restaurant is using the App to offer 20 per cent off customers’ food bills and giving them a chance to buy three courses and claim one free (except on Fridays and Saturdays).

“We are loving it.  Customers who have already downloaded the App are enjoying using it and we are able to tell others how they can do that and benefit.”

Cheeky Monkeys – a childrenswear shop in the city’s Guildhall Street – is pleased to be offering App-users a 10 per cent discount.

Sales Assistant Jo Young said: “We had a few customers using the App last weekend and have been telling more about it.  It is a benefit to us because it is encouraging shoppers to come into the store.  It is a good marketing tool.”

The Old Palace Lodge Guest Liaison Officer Andrea Cawdron is using the App to offer guests staying overnight between Sundays and Thursdays, a 10 per cent discount.

“I think LoyalFree is a great scheme. That is why we signed-up to it and we are looking forward to seeing the benefits,” said Andrea.

University of Lincoln student Charlotte Emily (author of Scarlet Slippers blog) loves using the LoyalFree App because it allows her to earn rewards by collecting stamps, as well as enjoying immediate discounts.
