Bradford Cathedral Choir and Black Dyke Band Concert for Christmas
On Saturday December 10th, the Black Dyke Band concert took place in Bradford Cathedral. The concert was very popular, and tickets sold out incredibly quickly. In case you’re not aware, the Black Dyke band is a brass band who are widely considered to be one of the best in the world, and the Cathedral is one of Bradford’s premier concert venues. Even in a citylike Bradford where there are plenty of amazing things to do already, the band’s Christmas dates are sought after events, and if you’re lucky enough to snag a ticket you’re in for a real treat.
The Black Dyke Band can trace their history back to the Victorian era, which is when brass band playing reached a peak of popularity in Yorkshire. The continuation of the tradition through events like the Black Dyke Band concert is a comforting link to the past, and at this time of year, to Christmases of old.
The Black Dyke Band Concert Review
First of all, the site chosen for the event was wonderful. Bradford Cathedral was wrapped in holly and mistletoe, giving the full Christmas experience. As soon as you walked in, you knew you made the right decision in coming, and were in for a special night. My heart was full and warm, and I was filled with gratitude that we could finally meet in person again following two years of social distancing and lockdowns during and after COVID-19.
True to form, the Black Dyke Band concert itself was far from a disappointment. The calibre of playing was all it was hyped up to be. I played in a brass band competition or two when I was younger, but nothing we did compared to the Black Dyke Band’s truly excellent performance. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and the atmosphere just added to the Christmas feeling. I would highly recommend you get tickets to any future Black Dyke Band concert, whenever you get the chance.
